You may be…

  • trying to get into a big organisation, and unsure what they're really looking for
  • leaving school or college, and not sure what working life will expect of you
  • often the only person like you in the room, and tired of second-guessing how you come across
  • caught up in office politics you never signed up for
  • doing good work that the right people never seem to notice
  • delivering consistently, but passed over when promotions come round

If any of that sounds familiar, you don't have to work it out on your own. I've spent my career in these rooms, and I can help you find your way through them.

Things people often say

Typical concerns, in the kind of words people use. They're illustrations of common situations, not client testimonials.

  • “I keep applying, and I still don't know what they're really looking for.”

    Getting in
  • “Nobody explains how any of this works. I'm worried about getting the basics wrong.”

    First jobs
  • “I'm often the only one like me in the meeting, and I second-guess everything I say.”

The only one in the room
  • “There's a lot going on under the surface here, and I'm not sure who to trust.”

    Office politics
  • “I deliver, but the people who make the decisions never seem to see it.”

    Visibility
  • “I've been told I'm 'nearly ready' for promotion two years running.”

How I help

I offer career coaching, one to one. It's grounded in my own experience of corporate life and delivered using NLP techniques. Three things make it different.

Three things I bring

  • Lived experience

A half Black, half white perspective

I've built my career in large corporate environments as a mixed-race man. I understand how being seen as different can shape a career, and we can talk about it openly.

  • Credibility

    Programme director in banking

Programme director experience across cyber security, commercial banking, Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM), retail and global banking. Over 20 years with employers including the Bank of England, BT, WPP, HSBC and Goldman Sachs, and work across Europe with WPP.

  • Method

    NLP Master Practitioner

Trained with Richard Bandler. I use NLP techniques to help you work on how you think, speak and prepare. Backed by PMP, PRINCE2, Chartered Business Analyst, Agile, Scrum and accountancy qualifications.

How we work together

The Room Method

Three steps that run through every session, whichever level you're at.

  1. Read the room

We look at how your organisation really works: who decides, what gets noticed, and how you're seen right now.

  2. Edit your story

Using NLP techniques, we work on how you think, speak and prepare, so the story you tell about yourself is clear and useful.

  3. Walk in ready

We rehearse the moments that matter, from an interview to a promotion conversation, so they feel less new on the day.

Where you could be heading

Big organisations, busy offices, meetings where it counts. These are the rooms I've spent my career in, and I can help you walk into them with confidence.

Jerome Stevens, founder of The Boardroom Edit

Hi, I'm Jerome.

I'm of mixed-race origin: half Black, half white. Over more than 20 years, I've built my career inside some of the largest organisations in banking, telecoms, marketing and retail, including the Bank of England, BT, WPP, HSBC and Goldman Sachs. Today I work as a programme director in cyber security and banking.

I know those environments don't always feel built for everyone. The Boardroom Edit is how I pass on what I've learned about finding your way through them.

Questions people ask

Who is it for?

People at every stage of working life, at three levels. New starter is for school and college leavers, graduates and people in their first roles. VP to Senior VP is for vice presidents and senior vice presidents building influence and going for the next step. Director is for directors, and those stepping up to director level and the top table.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

No. Coaching is not therapy or counselling. It focuses on your career and your goals. If you need support with your mental health, please speak to your GP or another qualified professional.

Will this guarantee me a job?

No. No coach can honestly guarantee you a job or a promotion, and I won’t pretend to. Hiring and promotion decisions are made by employers. What coaching can do is help you understand what they’re looking for, prepare properly, and walk in with a clearer story and more confidence.

What happens on the free discovery call?

It’s 30 minutes, online. We talk about where you are and what you want, and work out together whether coaching with me suits you, and which level fits. It costs nothing, there’s no hard sell, and you’re under no obligation to book anything afterwards.
